How to Cook Chinese Herbs

Container:

Clay or glass pot is preferred container. Chinese grocery shop has clay pot for sell. It can also be purchased from some clinics.

Cooking:
Normally, one packet of herbal medicine is for one day's use. Put herbs in the pot. Add 3 cups of water. The water should cover the herbs by about an inch and a half. It is important to leave the lid on.

Bring the water to boil. Then turn down the fire and simmer it for about 30 to 40 minutes. When there is about 1 cup of decoction remains, put the decoction in a cup.

Leave herbs in the pot for 2 nd cooking. Add 2 cups of water, put the lid on, and cook until 1 cup of decoction remains. Put the decoction in another cup. Then discard herbs.

When to take the herbs:
Now you have 2 separate cups of decoction. You can drink one cup in the morning, one cup at night. Drink the decoction whilst warm. Warming the decoction by microwave is fine.

* 1 cup = 200 ml
* offee filter can be used to remove the small substances from the decoction
